In a studio setting, close quarters indoors I set my shutter to 1/60 so this is the window in which the flash has to complete it's burst. Typically most cameras are limited to a 1/250 flash sync. Some can go to 1/500 and some (like my D70s) have synced at 1/2500.
Absolute minimum requirements are that the trigger sets off the flashes within 1/250-sec.
